Dr. Suzanne B. Galusi Hired as Permanent Superintendent of MPS

The Medford School Committee has appointed Dr. Suzanne B. Galusi as the permanent Superintendent of the Medford Public Schools (MPS).

Dr. Galusi was most recently the Interim Superintendent for MPS, a position she’s held since late January, 2025. During her time as Interim Superintendent, Dr. Galusi has led the district’s work to build a new Medford High School, collaborated with community partners in expanding afterschool programming, and established data systems for academic progress monitoring among other work. Her emphasis on aligned expectations for students, staff, and families has further created systems for belonging, excellence, and opportunity across the district.

“Throughout her career in Medford, Dr. Galusi’s work ethic and eagerness to engage with stakeholders has helped her become a true leader in our city and school community,” said Mayor of Medford and Chair of the Medford School Committee Breanna Lungo-Koehn. “As the Committee and district continue to progress in the creation of a new Medford High School, address the overcrowding at our elementary schools, and other community priorities, Dr. Galusi’s passion and experiences make her the right choice to lead our schools.”

Dr. Galusi began her career in MPS as an elementary classroom teacher in 1997 and has been with the district ever since. Originally beginning at the Davenport School, Dr. Galusi also taught at the McGlynn Elementary School before joining the Roberts and Brooks Elementary School in a dual administrative role. Following eight total years at Brooks Elementary School, including the last four as school principal, Dr. Galusi joined the Medford Public Schools central administration team as an assistant superintendent in 2020 before later holding the interim superintendency.

“I am very honored and excited to be named the full-time Superintendent of Medford Public Schools,” said Dr. Galusi. “Throughout my experience as an administrator, teacher, and even former Medford student, I’m consistently reminded of our bright young minds, incredible educators, and passionate community members. Leading the academic, social, and emotional growth of our over 4,000 students in a full-time role is a responsibility I am grateful to earn and eager to continue.”

Dr. Galusi holds an undergraduate degree in Education from Framingham State University (1996), a master’s degree in Education from Lesley University (2000), and a doctorate in Education from the Boston College Lynch School of Education (2024). Her permanent appointment is pending successful contract negotiations with the Medford School Committee.
