NWEA Map Growth Assessment

NWEA Map Growth Assessment

Dear McGlynn Middle School Parents and Caregivers,

In an effort to create the best learning environment and to improve student outcomes, we are excited to share that the district will once again implement an assessment tool that will provide you and your child’s teachers with information so that we can establish precise instructional levels and identify areas to focus on for academic growth. Students in grade 6-8 will take the assessment, Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) developed by the Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA). NWEA is a non-profit organization that has created this norm-referenced assessment to assist educators to measure student growth over time. At the McGlynn Middle School, students will be tested over the next few weeks in the areas of English Language Arts, Mathematics and Science. We plan to administer these assessments three times this school year.

The MAP Growth Assessment is a computer-adaptive test. As your child progresses through the assessment, the test will adjust to make sure the questions posed challenge the student without overwhelming them. The results of these tests will assist teachers to inform instruction, personalize learning, and monitor the growth of individual students. Educators will utilize the data to assess performance and progress made at each grade level, school and across the district. It will help us learn more about where students need interventions and identify what those interventions might be at the classroom, school and district level.

You will receive your student's progress report after each assessment and it will show your child’s growth. This growth progress report will show all the data points (from previous years) so that you are able to follow your child’s learning trajectory. The following is some more information on the MAP Growth Assessment, please click the following links:

The MAP assessments for English Language Arts, Mathematics and Science will take place over the next few weeks at the McGlynn Middle School. Students will need to make sure that they bring in their charged school-issued Chromebook to take these assessments. The testing days are as follows:

  • ELA (September 15 & September 17)

  • Mathematics (September 22)

  • Science (September 24)

Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you.
